Phillip O'Malley

Phillip Harold O'Malley, 84, of Pittsburg, passed away at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Medicalodge of Pittsburg.

He was born October 4, 1939, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Phillip "Harold" and Anna "Ann" Marie (Pomatto) O'Malley. Phil attended elementary school in Scammon and graduated from Weir High School and later from Pittsburg State University.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

On April 27, 1968, he was united in marriage to Lois Edison in Oklahoma. They later divorced.

Phil owned O'Malley Implement, Pittsburg Ford, and Rental Management Co.

He was a longtime member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Scammon. Phil also served on the board and was a volunteer fireman for the Baker Township Fire Department.

Survivors include daughters, Teresa Fairchild (Paul) of Pittsburg and Jennifer Stookey (Nick) of Arma; honorary daughters, Jenae Journot (Aaron) of Kansas City, Missouri, and Jayni Whitefield (Derrick) of Midland, Texas; two brothers, Charlie O'Malley of rural Scammon and Larry O'Malley (Peggy) of Independence, Kansas; a sister, Mary Sue Schiefelbein of Pittsburg; daughter-in-law, Beverly O'Malley of Pittsburg; the love of his life, Lisa, of Pittsburg; twelve grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim O'Malley; an infant brother, Joseph O'Malley; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Starns and Rose Marie Wydick; and his son, David Wayne O'Malley.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (May 22) at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Scammon with Father Chris Rumback as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery in Scammon. The parish rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday (May 21) at Brenner Mortuary, where the family will receive friends after until 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warriors, or St. Jude's, or SEK Humane Society. These may be left in the care of Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
