Mary Ann Senecaut

Mary Ann Senecaut, 94, of Girard, died at 1:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, at Homestead of Girard.

Mary was born Nov. 7, 1929, at Greenbush, a daughter of Rolland and Ada (Brazil) Peak.

She grew up in the Greenbush and Girard areas and graduated from Girard High School.

She married Richard M. Senecaut on Aug. 26, 1950, in Girard and Richard preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1995.

Mary worked as a secretary at the Girard High School from 1969 until retiring in 2001.  She enjoyed her family, walking, crafts, and sewing.

Mary was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Girard, St. Michael Altar Society, the Red Hat Society, Girard Hospital Auxiliary and the Pink Ladies.  She volunteered for the Red Cross and Good Will and she was a mentor at the Girard Grade School.

Survivors include her sons, Richard Senecaut, and his wife, Georganne, of Lenexa, Jim Senecaut of Girard, and Tim Senecaut of Pittsburg.  Her daughters, Pamela Varone, and her husband, Curt, of Frontenac and Tammie O’Brien and her husband, Kerry, of Hepler.  Her grandchildren Shawn Hamilton, Ross Varone, T.M. Senecaut, Chris Senecaut, Jason Senecaut, Kolt O’Brien, Kallie Beachner, Klay O’Brien, Aimee Senecaut, Emily Senecaut, and Elizabeth Senecaut.  20 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her sisters, Loretta Lallemand, Catherine Baldwin, Pat Peak and her brothers, Paul Peak, James “Jim” Peak, Bill Peak, Charlie Peak, and Lloyd Peak.

The Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Girard with Fr. Daniel Vacca as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery. The Rosary will be at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church followed by visitation until 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Michael’s Church and USD #248 Scholarship Fund and these may be left at the service or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard 66743.
