New center name honors Crossland

There were a lot of historical references, Saturday, at a ceremony announcing the renaming of Pittsburg State University’s Kansas Technology Center and of PSU’s College of Technology. The new names, the Crossland Technology Center and the Crossland College of Technology, honor a company that in many ways has grown over the past three decades in tandem with the KTC and the programs housed therein. more
PITTSBURG, Kan. — Thanks to food and beverage enthusiasts in the area, community members can enjoy German festivities this month without buying plane ticket.   Saturday, Oct. 5 from 5 to 10 p.m., the Mirza Shriners are inviting the public to taste beers, eat delicious food and take home a collectible mug for $25. The beer festival will take place at the Shriner’s Temple at 110 W. 5th Street in Pittsburg. The party will have entertainment, games and an authentic German outfit contest.   more

PITTSBURG, Kan. — The Pittsburg High School Speech and Debate team has been named one of the top 100 schools for the 2023-2024 school year by the National Speech and Debate Association.  Although the rankings are ever-changing, so far this school year, the PHS team has been consistently in the top 100 out of 3,000 schools. PITTSBURG, Kan. — Rolanda Root, 2D art teacher at Pittsburg High School (PHS), was recently awarded the title of 2024-25 Outstanding High School Art Educator from the Kansas Art Education Association (KAEA). This marks the second year in a row a PHS art teacher has received the award.   Born and raised on a farm in Iowa, Root has spent the past 20 years teaching her passion at different schools in Kansas and Utah. For the past 5 years, she and a fellow colleague have been growing the art program at PHS. Root said most all the school’s art classes are at maximum capacity.   more
